Arundel Castle Joust, 22nd July - 27th August 2025

Arundel Castle

Arundel Castle Joust Week Day 1 Cloudy and overcast for most of the day with some occasional sunny spells.

1600 visitors through the gates, which considering many schools hadn't broken up was an impressive number... And some really loverly visitors, very engaging and chatty.

Encampment looking really good, and thanks to everyone who participated and supported Day 1.

Day 2 More of a chilled day today with 1300 visitors through the gates and a mixture of sunshine and cloud... Another positive day encampment wise and great to see the Toffs out watching the last Joust of the day (plenty of scrubbing, and a good deal of witchcraft clearly worked wonders on some).

Moving in to the half way mark tomorrow so here's hoping Day 3 will be as good.

Day 3 Slower start to the day, some big student groups dashed through, and so we hit 1800 visitors.

Sun gave way to clouds , and some spots of the wet stuff threatened but nothing until after closure.

Half way through the Joust Week already and everyone had done a great job once again.

Day 4 Another dry day but whose heat just grew and grew... 1600 visitors through the gates, a prelude to a very busy weekend ahead methinks, and some very loverly people they were at times.

Huge thank you to everyone for being ready at 9am for some promotional videos for the castle , the encampment really looked great. Another great spread of food from Morag, assisted by Kirstie (seems to be a year of wasps who really didn't take the hint of 'just sodding off!')

Day 5 Well we thought it was going to be busy, and we certainly were right... just over 3000 visitors through the gates!

Excellent day interaction wise, some loverly visitors, excellent Jousting and all in all a very good day.

Grey and overcast, wirh sunny spells, muggy to hot think sums up temperature.

One more day if dryness please.

Venison Stew from Morag, assisted by Kirstie, was excellent, best of a very good menu this week I would say, huge thanks to both.

Today certainly went quickly, final day tomorrow then another Joust done for the year.

Day 6 Final day, and the weather gods were with us for a dry day (quickest I think we've even downed an encampment, well done all there).

Well deserved acknowledgement from Andrew over PA to all in Raven Tor, so take that folks, and to the individual contributors to the event... It's a long slog for us as window dressing to the main feature, but the encampment over all looked good. Huge thank you to Morag and Kirstie for 6 days of food cooking and provision (remember you're on your own for multiperiod as its Morags event off) always much appreciated as its blooming hard graft hanging over a hot fire, in the sunshine, wearing multiple layers.

Top display and best engagement with vistors about their display goes to Adam.

Excellent presentation, attention to detail, kit, clothing, awning looked great Most entertaining to listen too, explaining what something is without actually saying what it was, Morag and her Noki... (it's a type of pasta)

Best new outfit or item of clothing, Emma, that hennin was something else, well researched, very well made.

Best item or object made as a demonstration at an event, Judy and her cloth bags, beautiful work and great addition to the ladies outfits. And best Scrubbed Up Gold goes to Dan... Really liked the trying on different combos over the week, and today's selection, to represent someone in the Guild of Smiths, Merchant Class, really looked good (bit of a beard trim and our Master Smith has it nailed), well done fella.

Huge thanks to everyone who participated at any point during the 6 days and therefore supported the event

Your time, patience, endurance and all your hard work is always much appreciated.
