Arundel Castle 15th century Skirmish

Day 1

Well, certainly can't say that the weather was good, certainly can say it was way too hot.

Sadly no thermostats either outside or inside the armour and woollen clothing.

Magnificent effort from everyone today, it was a real endurance for all and both combat, living history and craft you sent 1800 visitors away having had a good day (maybe 7 didn't, but that was down too me, and no regrets there).

Huge thanks to Morag who endured heat and smoke from the fires, but also was standing out in the sun for most of the day, and still put an excellent spread of food out on the tables.

Both combat and archery went really well in the main arena, it really was long enough in that heat and was greatly appreciated by visitors.

Two more days to go, and the heats only going up.

Day 2

Another hot and humid day, but over 2000 visitors endured the heat and had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Certainly more engaging visitors who spent time with everyone in the encampments, and those that stayed to watch things going on in the arena were very supportive and vocal.

Second day hanging over the hot fires to prepare another fine spread of food, so huge thanks to her... And special mention to Courtney and Stephen for the shopping, and additional food prepping, very much appreciated.

Encampment looking really good, and special mentions to Andy House, Glenn, and Adam, for dressing their tents to fit the roles they were portraying.

Some excellent combat and archery, and respect and thanks to all those on the field for enduring and surving the heat.

And well done to Lady Joan, Countess of Arundel (aka Morag) for inspiring the English forces to retake the castle (her home).

Skirmish Day 3

Well folks, that was an endurance on so many levels for everyone today, the hottest of the three, and no less intense at times.

Just under the 2000 visitors, but that was a great achievement considering the heat, and so many positive comments and thanks to everyone as people left at the end of the day.

Huge thanks once again to Morag, who endured Sun, heat, fire heat, and smoke to provide another excellent spread of food... and again thanks to Courts and Stephen for their support to Morag in the shopping, and prepping...Great team effort folks.

Congratulations and well deserved Battlefield elevation to Knight Banneret to Gavin, Chris and Jack... A gesture of recognition of all their hard work, commitment and swet spilled this year (especially at Midhurst), very much appreciated.

The encampment really is looking great, and although we were representing a Campaign Encampment, the table displays, tent dressings, crafts and interaction by everyone over the three days is a real credit to you all. Heat was definitely taking its toll, not only with the combatants but also with those sitting under awnings and tents, which is a different form of endurance and in no way is less draining.

Gold Stars to Andy House, new tent, great set up, and loads of interaction; to Adam, enduring maille making in the sauna, excellent display as a seller of armour, and already a great set up with first raising of the new tent; to Harrison and Izzy for the woodworking area, great displays and set up, even though a 'work in progress '

Special mentions to Harrison, a legend with checking on everyone regarding water, and for all the support, help and running about; Nick Sly for all his support and help in pre event set up, and again for all the running about; and to Jack, not only for getting into armour and TV interview at silly o'clock on Friday, but for all his help and support over the event.
